4. Phase measurement with wattmeter
This method is still used in conventional metrology, as it is very simple to use and requires standard equipment.
The assembly is shown in figure 24 a.
The wattmeter W measures the active power P consumed by the load, while the ammeter I and voltmeter V measure the apparent power S = V I. The rectangular diagram of the three power vectors (figure 24 b ) defines the power factor:
