Metrology, the "science of measurement", is taught in various chapters of physics, physical chemistry, biology and certainly in other disciplines. In electricity, for example, high school students learn how to measure an electric current, physical measurement students learn how to measure the speed of a motor, and engineering students learn how to determine the radiation pattern of an antenna. The teaching of practical measurement skills is thus satisfactorily completed, and the engineer or technician who joins the industry knows how to measure in his or her field of expertise.
To sum up this preamble, it could be said that, generally speaking, young graduates know about measurement, but perhaps not about metrology!
