Onde ultrasonore ; Ultrasonic Wave
An ultrasonic wave is a mechanical vibration with a frequency above 20 kHz. In the field of non-destructive testing, frequencies in the MHz range are used. In some highly targeted applications, where small samples are studied, frequencies in excess of GHz are used. In such cases, the term "hypersound" is sometimes used.
Onde longitudinale; Longitudinal Wave
A wave or vibration whose direction of propagation is collinear with the mechanical displacement. The term "compression wave" may also be used.
Transverse wave; Shear Wave
A wave or vibration whose direction of propagation is perpendicular to the mechanical displacement. The term "shear wave" may also be used.
Time of Flight; Temps de vol
