1. General

A little history

Today's electromagnetic flowmeters operate on the Faraday principle: if a conductive liquid, moving at speed V inside a tube (whose diameter D is electrically insulated), passes perpendicularly through a magnetic field B, a voltage U is induced in the liquid. This voltage is picked up by two electrodes, which measure :

U=DBV

The converter collects the voltage at the electrodes and calculates the flow-volume by multiplying the flow velocity by the cross-sectional area of the measuring tube.
