3.1 Principle
This method of measurement deserves to be demystified, as there are certain reservations about it due to its radionuclear connotations. However, it is often an irreplaceable and very elegant response to certain problems.
The method uses γ-rays emitted by radioisotope sources, mainly cobalt 60, cesium 137 and less frequently americium 241.
