2. Weighing measurement systems
It seems easy to place a tank or silo on a scale or weighbridge to obtain a level measurement.
The mass measurement results from the integration of the product of height and density, and therefore corresponds to a head measurement for liquids, with the form factor or barometric effect carefully taken into account. In the case of bulk solids whose apparent density is highly variable in space and time (due to hygrometry, settling, vaulting, etc.), the relationship between level and mass becomes suspect and is only possible for free-flowing products.
More often than not, the parameter sought is actually the weight, mass or, possibly, the volume of the product, and the operator is only interested...
