2. Membrane sensor
It consists of a diaphragm (figure
2
) flush with the wall of a silo, with a diameter of the order of 100 to 200 mm and made of a particularly abrasion-resistant elastomer. When the product comes into contact with the diaphragm, the pressure applied causes the diaphragm to move backwards, activating a microswitch. When the product descends, it releases the diaphragm and deactivates the microswitch. This is the bulk solids version of the diaphragm used for hydrostatic pressure measurement of liquids, but the poor accuracy associated with it means that it can only be used for level detection.
