1. Characteristics of Bolted Flange Assemblies
Bolted flange assemblies must meet three main functional requirements:
ensure the structural continuity of the equipment to enable
efficient transmission of forces between the various components of
a system;
to facilitate the assembly and disassembly of the joint;
guarantee the tightness of the joint, thereby ensuring the
continuity of the pressure barrier.
To meet these three requirements, a bolted flange joint consists
of flanges, a gasket, and bolts used to tighten the assembly (Figure
1
).
