Four scales of geometric definition are generally adopted:

• global scale (the order of magnitude of the dimension of the mechanism in question). For example, a CAD-3Dimensions view can be used to locate the morphology of each part;

• general macroscopic scale. This view of geometry is used to specify dimensions (linear, circular) and tolerances, particularly on 2-D drawings. This is the best-known description, largely governed by Geometric Standards;
