The Powertrain Unit is subjected to two types of applied loadings,
those from the gas combustion cycle and those related to inertia phenomena.

Different forces
The gases in a cylinder produce a variable pressure during the
cycle which, at the moment of combustion, generate a so-called «
gas force
» on the piston, a force which is the cause of its
displacement and that of the engine’s traction.
Similarly, the moving parts (piston, rod, etc.), which are subjected,
through the connecting rod/crank system, to accelerations, undergo
so-called «
inertial forces
».
