4. Thermodynamic performance

4.1 Filling and exhaust

The fourth key parameter in this article is thermodynamic performance. In general, cylinder filling is highly dependent on the local pressure in the air intake manifold during the intake phase. This pressure is a function of the spatial distance between two consecutive combustions in the same intake manifold, i.e. the firing order and the V-angle. Depending on crankshaft topology, thermodynamic performance can be significantly impacted.
