7. Conclusion
The transmission is, and will remain for a long time to come, an essential component of the combustion GMP, but also of the electric GMP (single- or multi-speed gearboxes) and hybrid GMP (all types of electrified transmissions). By 2020, some 105 million transmissions of all types are expected to roll off the production line, 35% more than in 2010.
Today, the world market is divided almost equally between manual transmissions (all types) and automatic transmissions (all concepts: AMT, DCT, BVA, CVT), a situation that will change little in the future. By 2020, the worldwide breakdown of transmission types should be as follows: BVM (50%), BVA (28%), CVT (10%), DCT (8%), electrified transmissions (4%).
