Friction welding

Strictly from a geometric point of view, all revolution joints can be made by friction.

When cross-sections are not equal, it may be necessary to prepare the larger part to achieve symmetry and better thermal distribution for balanced creep. Figure 5 shows some of the basic principles commonly used.

When the metals are dissimilar, this results in an asymmetrical configuration of the beads (figure 6 ).
