2. Electroless nickel-boron baths
According to the principle of chemical deposition, two chemical compounds are essential for the operation of a nickel-boron bath: nickel salts and a suitable reducing agent. However, other products are also necessary for the bath to function properly and for the quality of the coatings.
The catalytic and spontaneous nature of electroless nickel deposition reactions implies a more complex bath composition than that of their electrolytic counterparts. Indeed, it is essential to work under conditions close to bath instability, in order to maintain sufficient deposition rates while remaining stable enough to allow prolonged use.
