2.1 Notion of propulsive efficiency
The aim of a propeller is to create a propulsive force by varying the momentum of the air flowing through it (with the best possible efficiency) and to transmit it to the aircraft structure. We need to analyze the definition of propulsive efficiency (different from propeller efficiency, which will be defined later) to highlight the advantages of the propeller (figure 1 , associated with Froude's theory).
