8. Air pollution
Motor vehicles contribute significantly to air pollution, due in part to engine exhaust gases and in part to evaporation losses. Pollutant emissions are measured using specific, expensive, high-precision measuring devices that require regular calibration and drift checks.
Evaporation losses consist mainly of volatile hydrocarbons.
