1. Torque and speed measurements
These are the basic measurements to be taken on combustion engines. A combustion engine removed from its actual installation (vehicle, boat, generator, etc.) cannot deliver power unless it is connected to a device capable of dissipating this energy. These are load machines.
1.1 Various loading machines
In order for an internal combustion engine to develop its torque, a load machine must be connected to the internal combustion engine or powertrain being tested.
Two categories of loading machines can be used in test benches depending on the tests to be performed: non-reversible machines that provide a braking function and reversible machines that can provide both braking and drive functions.
