2. Role of the Various Components of Centripetal Turbines
For reasons of space and efficiency, the turbines in turbochargers are axial when the power of the supercharged engines exceeds 300 kW. However, for lower power ratings, the blade height becomes too small, and to achieve acceptable efficiency, it is advantageous to use centripetal turbines, which also have a less space-consuming design.
Apart from supercharging internal combustion engines, centripetal turbines are also used in low-power gas turbines. Furthermore, in the aerospace industry, centripetal turbines are primarily used in auxiliary power units (APUs) and in air conditioning systems.
