1. Flow in the Volute
In small centripetal turbines, the assembly commonly referred to as the “volute” accounts for approximately half of the energy loss, regardless of thermal losses. It is therefore necessary to be able to analyze the power dissipated by the fluid in this poorly understood part of the turbine. A kinematic study of the gas in the volute is essential to determine, with a good approximation, the velocity components.
