2. Preliminary Calculation of a Centripetal Turbine
To determine the type of turbine best suited to a given set of specifications, it is necessary to perform a brief preliminary calculation. Depending on the turbine’s application, the conditions at the turbine inlet and outlet will be more or less known.
In what follows, we will consider the case of supercharging automotive internal combustion engines, a common application for centripetal turbines. In this case, the turbine is driven directly by a centrifugal compressor that uses the hot exhaust gases from the cylinders.
