1. Regulations

As mentioned in the introduction, the field of transportable pressure equipment is highly regulated.

  • The UN Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods is made up of some 36 voting nations. Organizations such as ISO participate as observer members. The members of this committee draft and periodically revise the "Orange Book", which contains their recommendations. The most recent meeting resulted in the 22nd edition of this document being drawn up for 2021.

    This Orange Book defines Class 2 as pure gases, gas mixtures, mixtures of one or more gases with one or more other substances, and articles containing such substances.

    Dangerous goods are divided into 13 classes. Class 2 corresponds to compressed, liquefied or dissolved gases.
