1.1.1 Functional features
In a turbocharged engine, the intake air density is increased by compressing the air in the compressor and, possibly, by cooling the compressed air through an intercooler placed between the compressor and the engine. Compressor and intercooler are fitted in series in the intake circuit; all intake air passes through the compressor (the intercooler may be bypassed, depending on operating conditions).
