INTRODUCTION
The use of a flame for actual welding, using a flashlight, only dates back to the beginning of the 20th century.
Indeed, the high temperatures required for welding metals (especially steel) could only be achieved when oxygen was available industrially as an oxidizer and acetylene as a fuel.
The development of this assembly process, as well as other techniques involving the use of flames, is therefore relatively recent.
