4. Balancing rigid rotors

The rotational response of a rigid rotor is governed essentially by the response of the two solid body eigenmodes (translation and tilting, see figure 9 ), the participation of higher elastic eigenmodes being negligible. Rigid-rotor balancing is widely practiced, including flexible-rotor balancing as a low-speed preliminary to nominal-speed balancing.
