Calculating the load capacity of ball bearings requires calculating the Hertz pressure in the ball/track contact.
The ball is the rolling element that generates the least friction, as it is in point contact with the track. Under the effect of the load transmitted through the ball and the elastic deformation of the tracks, the contact zone widens and the contact surface becomes elliptical (figure
