Mechatronics was identified as a priority technology for mechanical engineering in the early 2000s. This was reflected in the book entitled "Les technologies prioritaires 2010 en mécanique" published by Cetim and FIM. At the "Horizons mécaniques" conference held in June 2006 to mark Cetim's 40th anniversary, major customer sectors came to talk about their future expectations of the mechanical engineering industries and the challenges they face.
