3. Aluminium and aluminium alloys

3.1 Casting alloys

The old French standard NF A 02-004 (1980) is still often used, but European standards EN 1780 and EN 1706 (1998) should be used.

  • Numerical and symbolic designations always begin with the letters EN AC-. Then :

    • For the numerical designation, we have five digits:

      • the first gives the main alloying element:

        • 1: unalloyed aluminium,

        • 2: aluminum-copper,

        • 3: aluminum-manganese,

        • 4: aluminum-silicon,

        • 5: aluminum-magnesium,

        • 6: aluminum-magnesium-silicon,...
