1. Steel grades for mechanical engineering

Table 1 presents a non-exhaustive list of steel grades for use in welded mechanical engineering, in the form of a classification based on ISO/TR 15608.

The presentation of the nuances and the normative reference allow you to find out quickly :

  • the type of product involved (flat products, sections, bars, welded or non-welded tubes, forged, cast);

  • the reference metallurgical state;

  • the product's usual destination ;

  • guaranteed minimum yield strength at room temperature ;

  • guaranteed mechanical properties at elevated temperatures;

  • the temperature for which a breaking energy of 27 J (average value measured on a sample of 3 specimens) in impact bending is guaranteed on V-notched specimens;

  • the weldability of the referenced grades,...
