4. Different types of single-component sensors (force and torque)

We’ll start with the resultant component (force). Force sensors are also called “dynamometers,” “load cells,” or “force cells.”

A force sensor is always inserted into the mechanical chain through which the force travels. We most often encounter the configuration shown in Figure 10 , which depicts a test specimen attached to a double-leaf spring assembly acting as a ball-and-socket joint (H. Hild-LMT patent), which is itself connected to the force sensor.
