Changes in terminology and definitions (ISO 9000 and ISO 9001)

The 2015 version of ISO 9001 has served as the standard for the past ten years and has proven its ability to meet the needs of users and stakeholders, as its revision nearly failed to materialize due to a lack of a majority in favor of the revision during the ISO vote in 2021.

Thanks to—or perhaps because of—the perseverance and persistence of the Technical Committee responsible for the ISO 9000 and 9001 standards, a moderate revision was adopted in 2024 to improve the current version and bring it up to date in light of the technical and societal changes taking place within organizations.

The draft standard is currently at the DIS stage; it was published in August 2025 and approved in December 2025. The public will be able to officially review the amendments and corrections during the second quarter of 2026, when the FDIS (Final Draft International...
