1.1 Local authorities
By law (confirmed by law no. 2006-1772 of December 30, 2006), municipalities are responsible for drinking water and wastewater, as are their groupings or public establishments for inter-municipal cooperation (EPCI).
These can be broken down into :
single-purpose intercommunal syndicates ;
multi-purpose intercommunal syndicates ;
mixed syndicates ;
communities of communes ;
agglomeration communities ;
urban communities ;
territorial basin establishments*.
