Construction of rotating machines - DC machines

The stator of a DC machine consists of :

• of the carcass, whose role is both mechanical and magnetic:

  • mechanical role because it forms the machine's outer envelope, supports the poles and transmits reaction forces to the frame via mounting brackets or coupling flanges;

  • magnetic role because it carries the induction lines corresponding to the main flux and the auxiliary flux for switching assistance;

  Note :

  end ferrules or closing plates are considered part of the carcass.
