The transformation of mechanical energy into electrical energy, or vice versa, cannot be carried out without losses, as the energy thus lost is transformed into heat.
The aim of ventilation is to extract internal losses from their various sources, and to ensure that windings are cooled as evenly as possible, so that insulating materials retain the longevity that users expect. Ventilation efficiency is of prime importance when it comes to sizing an electrical machine.
