Created to meet military needs during the Second World War, the main feature of this battery is its ability to deliver high specific power levels, of the order of several hundred watts per kilogram. However, due to the addition of the elements required for thermal activation, and the reduced duration of use, its specific energy remains fairly low, in the range of 5 to 15 Wh/kg for batteries with a mass of a few kilograms at most; however, mass energies of 30 to 40 Wh/kg are claimed for large batteries of this type
