Since July 1
2003, the ATEX (ATmosphères EXplosibles) Directive 94/9/EC has been mandatory throughout the European Union. It concerns the marketing of equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. It is a so-called New Approach Directive, the aim of which is to define only essential requirements to enable equipment to be placed on the market.
