The aim of electromagnetism is to establish the laws governing electrical and magnetic phenomena in the broadest sense of these terms. It must take into account all applications of electricity: energy production (alternators, dynamos, etc.), transport and distribution of electrical energy, use of this energy (motors, lighting, etc.), electromagnetic waves (ranging from γ-radiation to radio waves for communication, including X-rays, ultraviolet, visible...
