3. Current state of research
The "heart" of the direct-oxidation liquid fuel cell is the assembly of membrane and MEA electrodes. This assembly is made up of five elements:
the liquid fuel diffusion layer at the anode;
the anodic catalytic layer;
the separating membrane ;
the cathodic catalytic layer;
the gas diffusion layer O
2
or air at the cathode.
