6. Causes of lead-acid battery failure

The service life of a flat-plate battery is around 1,200 charge-discharge cycles, and 1,500 cycles for a tubular-plate battery. These are indicative values, as many parameters have a significant influence on service life, including depth of discharge and temperature. End-of-life results in a rapid drop in capacity: 50% in a few cycles, more in the case of certain short-circuits.
