6. Thickness control
Laminated thickness must be as even as possible. In all cases, it is essential to monitor the thickness during the operation and react to keep it within the desired tolerances. For some thirty years now, all cold rolling mills and most hot finishing mills have been equipped with thickness control, which implies :
to have a means of measuring thickness instantaneously, with good accuracy, and to have it available in the form of an electrical or digital signal;
know the various parameters that can influence product thickness during lamination, and select the parameter(s) to be acted upon to correct any deviations detected.
