Electrical engineering components for rail traction

Power and auxiliary circuit components are grouped into blocks. They are distributed in such a way as to meet the constraints of weight and dimensions, loss evacuation and maintenance. The evolution of electrical blocks has been profoundly influenced by the modular design of sub-assemblies, particularly solid-state converters. Modularity makes it possible to have a number of smaller, specialized units:

• motor block per unit: bogie or axle ;

• auxiliary block ;

• common block including common components (DC circuit breaker, filter, etc.);

• dynamic braking unit.
