4. Cable link construction and operation
The study of an underground transmission or distribution link must first define the following points:
the most appropriate cable technology, taking into account the characteristics of the link, in particular its length, installation and operating conditions;
cable sizing, taking into account the load to be carried and its foreseeable future evolution, short-circuit current and, possibly, voltage drop problems;
the initial investment cost and subsequent operating costs, including any maintenance costs.
