3. Protection against inductive overvoltages
We distinguish between two cases:
the origin of the overvoltage is close to the element or portion of circuit it threatens; its effects can then be calculated;
overvoltages come from multiple, unknown sources (as in the case of the 220 V AC network); they need to be estimated globally.
