7. Fluid transfer and gas compression applications
The field in question concerns two-thirds of the electric motor applications used in industry, and around three-quarters of these applications operate at variable speed, predisposing them to the use of variable-speed electric drives rather than fixed-speed drives.
Almost 90% of pumps used in industry are centrifugal or axial pumps. These are turbomachines that transmit the mechanical energy available on the shaft to the fluid flowing through them, transforming it into potential energy (height or pressure). The forces exerted on the fluid lead to an increase in kinetic energy and static pressure.
