3. Smart energy management based on non-intrusive load monitoring
In Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM), the whole-house building
load signal (data) is acquired from the main electrical panel outside
the building or the residence, avoiding the need for any additional
installation inside the user’s property. The NILM approach can be
formulated as follows. Let S (t ) be the aggregated
power signal from the active appliances at the entry point of the
meter at time t. Let Si (t ), i = 1, ..., n, be the power consumption of individual
