Various CO2 storage operations have already been completed or are in the process of being set up (table 4).

In Europe
In the North Sea, the Norwegian company Statoil has been capturing one million tonnes of CO2 per year from natural gas on the Sleipner field since 1996, and reinjecting this CO2 into a saline aquifer 1,000 m below the seafloor.
A European platform, the ZEP (Zero Emission Platform), has been set up, to examine how to develop and deploy fossil-fuel power plants with CO2 capture and storage. Electric utility Vattenfall is currently building a power generation demonstrator (50 MW) in Germany with CO2 capture via oxycombustion, and RWE has announced two coal-fired power plant demonstrators in the 1,000 MW range with pre-combustion (coal gasification)...
