Urban cold network (production and storage of cold)

Zone épipélagique; epipelagic area

Water column in lakes, seas and oceans (from the surface down to 200 m) where there is sufficient light for photosynthesis, as plants and animals are largely concentrated in this zone.

Bathypelagic area; zone bathypélagique

Water column of lakes, seas and oceans (between 1,000 and 4,000 m). At this depth, the ocean is almost entirely dark (with only bioluminescent organisms). There are no living plants, and most animals survive by consuming marine snow from detritus falling from areas above, or by hunting other organisms. Giant squid live at this depth, where they are hunted by sperm whales. The name comes from the Greek βαθúς (bathys), "deep".
