7. Conclusion
The emergence of Li-ion battery technology is a major breakthrough
in electrochemical energy storage. Its development has supported,
and to a certain extent ensured, the expansion of the mobile electronics
market over several decades. The evolution and diversification of
electrode and electrolyte materials used, as along with manufacturing
technologies, are today leading to unrivalled performance in terms
of energy density and variations adapted to multiple uses. This technology,
now mature, is still likely to see progress in terms of energy density
thanks to the use of new electrode materials.
The high growth in production for mobile applications has led
to a significant drop in manufacturing costs, now stable at around
$0.2 per Wh. This price level now enables this technology to penetrate
the market with
electric vehicle/hybrid
