The environmental impact of energy . A few examples

Around 85% of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions come from the energy sector. Of these gases, CO ₂ has the largest contribution with 95% of emissions. Electricity generation is responsible for almost 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

For emissions from the energy sector, coal is the most emitting source, accounting for 44% of CO ₂ emissions. Oil contributes 36% and natural gas 20%. These emissions come from the production and use of energy in the industrial, service, transport and residential sectors.
