The environmental impact of energy . A few examples

Around 85% of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions come from the energy sector. Of these gases, CO₂ has the largest contribution with 95% of emissions. Electricity generation is responsible for almost 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

For emissions from the energy sector, coal is the most emitting source, accounting for 44% of CO₂ emissions. Oil contributes 36% and natural gas 20%. These emissions come from the production and use of energy in the industrial, service, transport and residential sectors.

Transport emits CO₂ when fuel is burned, whether diesel (land vehicles or boats), petrol (cars) or kerosene (aircraft). To give some orders of magnitude for vehicles, we have the following correspondence for gasoline and diesel:
