5. Wind farm management
The average wind power available on sites is not the only, nor even the main characteristic to be taken into account in the management of a set of wind farms. Wind energy is, indeed, highly variable over time, in a rather unpredictable way. The electricians must thus be able to cope with significant variations in the power provided by the wind farm they operate or whose generation they purchase.
An example of wind variability on an English wind farm is shown in figure 15 .
Wind fluctuations over a short period of time (a month here) can be both large and chaotic.
