The total amount of "civilian" plutonium produced worldwide today is around 1,000 t, of which 200 t has been separated during the processing of irradiated fuel.
Nearly 1,500 t of MOX fuel (UO
2
-PuO
2
oxide mix) for use in light water reactors (LWRs) have been manufactured, and nearly 100 t of Pu recycled in fast breeder reactors (FBRs) and light water reactors.
